Save your relative or friend

My relative traveled to Russia and I have lost contact with them. What should I do?

Losing contact with a relative in Russia is increasingly common and should be treated as urgent.

1

Contact your country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Report the case to your national Ministry of Foreign Affairs as soon as possible. Provide all information you have: your relative's full name, date of birth, passport number, the date they traveled to Russia, and any last known location or unit information.

2

Contact your country's embassy in Russia immediately

Report your relative as a person of concern to your national embassy in Moscow. Provide their full name, date of birth, passport number, date of last contact, and the reason they traveled to Russia. Request that the embassy conduct a welfare check and attempt to establish their whereabouts.

See Embassy contacts for a full list of embassy contacts in Russia.
3

Contact the I Want to Find project

The I Want to Find project is a Ukrainian initiative that helps families locate foreign nationals who may have been recruited into the Russian Armed Forces and subsequently gone missing or been taken prisoner in Ukraine.

Submit your relative's details — full name, date of birth, passport number, last known location in Russia, and any other identifying information — to the I Want to Find project.

If your relative has been recruited and is alive in Ukrainian captivity, the project may be able to establish contact and facilitate communication with your family. Do not wait.
